Passed away on May 10, 2018. She was born and raised in Spokane, Washington and attended St. Aloysius Grade School, Holy Names Academy, and Gonzaga University. She received a master's degree at W.S.U. and a doctorate in bacteriology and virology at the University of California. She worked as a research scientist for the Proctor Foundation in California until she retired in 1991. After retiring, she and her husband, Jim, moved back to Spokane where Joan became an avid runner and member of the Bloomsday Road Runners' Club, volunteering countless hours to that organization. She also played an integral part in the monthly publication of the Race Rag. Her other hobbies included reading, knitting, doll-making, dancing, and collecting elephants. Joan is predeceased by her husband, Jim, her parents, Robert and Agnes Hall, and her sisters, Anne Hartman and Roberta Boyd. She is survived by her sisters Susan Boas (Dick, deceased), Nancy Schulz (Vern), and Monica Brower (Cliff) as well as by many nieces and nephews. Joan was a unique and special lady and will be missed by all who knew her. A celebration of life will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, June 9th at the Lilac Bloomsday Assoc. Building at 1414 N. Belt.
