Running Quotes (New each Week):
Of all the sports I've tried, some have come and gone but running has always been there for me. It's the simplest of things to do: shove your trainers on and just go.

Spokane running community mourns loss of Sarah Dox ey
The woman killed while jogging Wednesday morning near the Manito Country Club on the South Hill was health care executive Sarah Doxey.
Sarah was a member of the Spokane Swifts. The Swifts organized a memorial run where they placed flowers at the site where Sarah was killed.
Here’s a summary of the tragic incident involving Sarah Doxey, who lost her life in Spokane, Washington:
On Wednesday morning, July 16, 2025, around 5:30 a.m., Sarah Doxey, aged 48, was jogging near East 49th Avenue and South Perry Street on Spokane’s South Hill when she was struck by a vehicle. Emergency responders transported her to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries .
The suspected driver, a 17-year-old male, immediately fled the scene on foot. Witnesses reported that he crashed the vehicle into a nearby tree, then ran across the Manito Country Club fairway, lost both shoes in the escape, and crossed Highway 195 toward Eagle Ridge .
About 25 minutes after the crash, police located the suspect in a wooded area. He was bleeding, wet from the knees down, and had a strong odor of alcohol. He was apprehended and formally charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, fatal hit-and-run, and driving without a valid ID .
At a recent hearing, the juvenile defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges. Since the case remains in juvenile court, a conviction could lead to a sentence ranging from 30 to 72 weeks in a juvenile rehabilitation facility. Currently, the proceedings are ongoing .
Sarah was actively involved in Spokane’s healthcare community, holding senior roles including Chief Operating Officer and previously Vice President of Operations at CHAS Health. Her leadership, wisdom, and service were widely appreciated and mourned by colleagues and the community .
A graduate of Gonzaga University (Master’s, 2008), she had contributed to several Spokane-area health organizations including Cancer Care Northwest, Spokane Eye Clinic, and Providence before joining CHAS Health .
In tribute, members of her running group altered their route to the location of the accident and placed a small memorial in her honor .

I Must Run Everywhere
I'm happy to introduce a new/old runner who is a prolific writer with a unique sense
of humor. Jim Johnson offered to republish a few of his articles from his blog, "I must Run Everywhere."
https://imustruneverywhere.com/
People who go for a run in the country make such a big deal about how nice it is. Running down a tree-lined country lane to the scent of pines and chirping birds sounds nice, but is it really? Well, maybe it is. That’s a bad example. But running in urban areas can be fun too.
I get an excellent workout by racing to beat traffic lights, especially if the lights are set to a fairly slow traffic flow. Sometimes I can go several blocks at a hard pace before I get stopped.
Trail running takes sure footing, but so does running downtown. I don’t take a chance stomping on those rusting, about-to-collapse, metal plates covering access tunnels. Leaping across them makes a great cross-training workout!
And there’s more cross-training—imagine playing dodge ball, but instead of harmless nerf balls, you’re dodging hordes of shoppers and downtown office workers. What a challenge to keep up a brisk, collision-free pace.
I’m amazed how many times I’ve slowed down because I lost my motivation to push the pace, and just then I come across an abandoned homeless encampment.
Suddenly I have no problem kicking it into high gear to escape the stench, and for some reason, this “runner’s high” lasts for several blocks. To the homeless, I say, “Thanks for the boost.”
I’m a fan of history, and opportunities abound for higher learning. Just today I stopped at a statue and picked up information that I’m sure will help me if I ever appear on
Jeopardy.
Art aficionados will appreciate the dynamic artwork under railroad bridges, on walls and the sides of buildings. Art experts estimate it’d take 2.5 years of daily viewing to see every mural and painting in the downtown area.
Runners who love music won’t be disappointed either. Often there are talented musicians playing on street corners. I took a short break to listen to these two girls. When I resumed my run, they played the theme song from
Rocky
to get me going again.
So, next time you want a stimulating, educational workout, go for a run………..
